Circularization Program | 6th Edition

The Madrid Circular Economy Innovation Center (CIEC Madrid) launches the Circularization Program for Companies in the Construction, Rehabilitation, and Renovation Sector.

CIEC Madrid – The Circular Economy Innovation Center of Madrid City Council is launching a call for applications to participate in the Circularization Program for the Construction, Rehabilitation, and Renovation Sector. This comprehensive initiative is designed to enhance the adaptation and competitiveness of companies operating in this sector within the City of Madrid. The program focuses on creating value and improving environmental and social performance, while promoting more digitalized, sustainable business models that are aligned with evolving consumer demands.

In a business environment characterized by constant change, regulatory developments, and increasing consumer expectations, companies in the construction, rehabilitation, and renovation sector face new challenges and opportunities. Circularity, climate change, product quality, social responsibility, and other factors have become increasingly important in purchasing and investment decisions. In response to these emerging trends, the program proposed by CIEC Madrid aims to strengthen companies’ ability to adapt and thrive in this evolving landscape.

The program will cover the following topics:
  1. The program will cover the following topics:

    • Circular Economy in the Construction, Rehabilitation, and Renovation Sector: analysis of the application of circular economy principles within the sector.

    • Ecodesign and Eco-Design: integrating the assessment of environmental impacts into projects throughout their entire life cycle.

    • Environmental Management: improving process efficiency by optimizing the use of raw materials, increasing energy efficiency, and reducing the environmental impacts associated with production activities and supply chains.

    • Reuse, Repair, and Recycling: promoting strategies that extend the lifespan of materials, products, and resources.

    • Carbon Footprint Reduction: reducing the consumption of natural resources and minimizing pollutant emissions.

    • New Circular Business Models: including industrialized construction, the servitization of materials, equipment and components, industrial symbiosis, and other innovative approaches.

    • New Technologies, Digitalization, and Future Regulations: exploring emerging technologies, digital transformation, and upcoming regulatory developments such as the Digital Product Passport.

Program Objectives:

  1. Program Objectives:

To enable companies to transition toward a circular economy by:

    • Understanding each company’s current situation and identifying opportunities for improvement.
    • Designing specific strategies that support and accelerate the transition to a circular economy.
    • Exploring innovative technologies that can facilitate this transformation.
    • Raising awareness and encouraging companies to actively engage in the adoption of circular economy principles.
    • Creating value for participating companies through cost reduction, regulatory compliance, and enhanced reputation.

Ensuring an Effective and Adaptive Program

To achieve this, each company will develop a Pilot Project focused on implementing an initiative to improve its circularity performance. The project will be presented to the Madrid City Council during the Demo Day.

    Each Pilot Project will include:

    • An analysis of the challenge or opportunity to be addressed.
    • A detailed action plan.
    • An implementation timeline.
    • Performance indicators to measure the circularity improvements achieved.

Finally, once the program has concluded, participating companies will be contacted to assess the progress and development of their Pilot Projects.

Methodology:

The project will address the areas described above through five group sessions, each lasting two hours, and ten individual one-hour sessions with each participating company.

The objective is that, based on the initial assessment of each company and the improvement opportunities identified, a Pilot Project will be designed to implement a specific initiative aimed at improving the company’s circularity performance.

The group sessions will cover the following topics:

  • Welcome and Introduction to the Circular Economy in the Construction Sector
  • Ecodesign Applied to Construction
  • The Business Case for the Circular Economy
  • A Holistic Perspective on the Sector: Circular Economy in Construction, Rehabilitation, and Renovation

The program will involve six companies, preferably non-circular SMEs based in Madrid, representing different stages of the sector’s value chain.

The program will provide participants with educational materials, guides, videos, and other resources to support the implementation of circular economy practices within their organizations.

Finally, during the Demo Day, participating companies will present their circularity pilot projects to the Madrid City Council.

Target Participant Companies:

The program is free of charge and is intended for established companies based in the City of Madrid. Participants will be selected through a rigorous evaluation process that considers relevance, commitment, and implementation capacity.

Communication

In addition, the program includes a comprehensive communication plan covering outreach activities, content creation, message coordination, event promotion through the CIEC’s social media channels and website, and press releases for specialized media outlets.

These communication activities are designed to enhance the visibility of the companies participating in the program.

In return, we only ask for a clear commitment to actively participate throughout the program.

Registration Process

The Circularization Program has an approximate duration of three months, running from March to May 2026.

The application deadline is 4 March 2026 at 11:45 PM.
